Tea Garden

Oil on Canvas
24” x 30”

This painting is based on the same photo at the smaller “Seattle Japanese Garden”. Whereas in the smaller piece my intent was to capture the mist and fog and soft focus of the environment as I remember it, in this larger piece I was inspired by the shapes. I’ve been obsessed Matthew Wong and studying his work made me want to be more playful in my shapes and colors. And to think about pattern where I could find it. I wanted a bit of fantasy to enter the space. A little Willy Wonka-ish.
